Poker Hand Rankings
Best Poker Hands in Order

Best poker hands in order starting at the Top are is the highest. The next down the chart is a lower ranking poker hand. All the way down the chart to the lowest Poker Hand at the bottom. Highest poker hand at the Top. Which note that the highest possible poker hand is five of a kind Aces (directly bellow). The only way to complete five of a kind Aces is with a Joker or wild card. Which are not used in Texas Holdem Poker Games. Therefore in Texas Holdem Poker a Royal Flush is the very best possible poker hand ranking.

Five of a Kind

Five cards of equal rank

Royal Flush

The top five ranking cards in order, of the same suit.

A-K-Q-J-10 of the same same suit                             (Ace-King-Queen-Jack-10) of the same suit

Straight Flush

Any five cards in ranking order of the same suit.

                 6-7-8-9-10 of the same suit

Poker Hand Ranking & Kicker High Cards

Kicker High Card

The kicker is the next highest card used if there is a tie.

A-A-2-2-K  beats A-A-2-2-Q

If there two or more players with the exact same winning high hand it becomes a tie with the players that have the same highest hand.

A-A-2-2-K ties A-A-2-2-K

In some poker games it would go by suit. For instance an ace of spades beats ace of clubs in a tie with the ace. But not in texas holdem. Suits only are used for high carding for table position or extra chips in a tie pot.

Ace of spades beats Ace of clubs

If Two or more players have the same ranked hand then the higher of the two wins

AA = 1 Pair and KK =1 Pair

AA is higher than KK.

The same concept applies to all the hand ranks. If two players have a straight ....the highest straight is the winner.

6-7-8-9-10 beats 2-3-4-5-6

  • Texas holdem rules for determining hand rank include using the best five cards of seven possible cards to choose from.
  • If two players or more have the same poker hand rank the highest card in each player's hand will determine the winner, known as their "kicker".
  • It is also common in holdem for two or more players to have the exact same holdem hand rank. Which would result in a tie dividing the winnings equally.
